SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Paper money is near and dear to the hearts of most governments, and they don't appreciate the fraudulent reproduction of their currency. Aris does not permit the fraudulent reproduction or use of any images from this disc. In another wrinkle, several countries have copyrighted their currency. The only copyrighted currency included on this disc is that from The Netherlands, which is also quite beautiful and for which written permission for its use in this product was obtained. Reproduction in print form similar to actual size is not permitted, but video or computer reproduction has been cleared by Aris Entertainment. Several other major countries that have copyrighted their currency would not permit reproduction of their currency on this disc. One other important point -- living people (for example the Queen of England) have not been included in this collection.
In general there are guidelines that are similar for reproduction of currency images amongst many countries. You should always get explicit, written permission if you are using these images for an important project. Most countries permit the print reproduction of their currency if it is at least 1/2 or twice actual size. Some countries permit actual size reproduction, if the word "SPECIMEN" is printed 1/2" tall on a diagonal on both front and back of the bills. Again, these are guidelines, and you are responsible for compliance with the legal requirements of currency reproduction in your projects or productions.
These restrictions do not apply to coinage, or to composed images where the currency could not be accurately reproduced.
WHAT'S NEW:
The Media Clips stack can now run any Aris Media Clips CD-ROM from your local hard drive or floppy!
If you have another Media Clips CD-ROM and want to use the advanced features in this stack to view it, just insert any Aris Media Clips CD-ROM into your CD-ROM Drive and launch this stack. It's just that simple.
STARTING UP:
When Media Clips first starts up it checks the directory that it's in for the files it needs. If it doesn't find them, it checks for a Media Clips CD-ROM. If it doesn't find one it will ask you to locate one. After that Media Clips will function just like you would expect it to if you were running it off of it╒s CD-ROM.
LOCALIZING:
If you want to copy an Aris Media Clips disc (or just a few of the files) to a local Hard Drive;
1) Create a folder. (you may call it anything you like)
2) Create the same folders inside of your new Media Clips folder that you find on your Media Clips CD-ROM.
3) Copy the files with the SAME NAMES from EACH folder so that you have pictures and sounds of the same name in each of the folders. (Look at the way we designed the layout of the CD-ROM.)
PICTURE PICKER:
The PICTURE PICKER is window that displays little pictures (or Thumbnails) of all the 100 pictures on the CD-ROM. By clicking on any one of them you will be taken to that picture.
PLEASE NOTE: The PICTURE PICKER in this stack contains Thumbnails of the pictures that THIS stack came with.
If you wish to ╥Localize╙ the PICTURE PICKER window to reflect the current CD-ROM that you have in your CD-ROM Drive, you can Option-Click on the PICKER icon. Media Clips will ask you if you want to copy the Picker from the CD-ROM. Simply choose "Yes" from the dialog box.
Of course, if you're just browsing around don't worry about it - the PICTURE PICKER will still function correctly - If you click on the first Thumbnail, you get the first picture, if you click on the 50th Thumbnail, you get the 50th picture, and so on.
SOUND PICKER:
The SOUND PICKER provides a graphic display and description of the sounds that are on the disc. Each circle represents a sweep second hand display of the length of each sound "cue" in seconds with the black portion of the circle. For example, a fifteen second "cue" would have the upper right quadrant of the circle filled with black, much as you would expect from the face of a clock. The actual time of a "cue", in seconds and tenths of a second are found right below the circle representing that "cue". The remaining area is color coded with the style of the sound, which are described in a legend at the bottom of the window. To view the name of each "cue", single click on the circle, and the name will appear in the window to the lower right. To play the sound, just double click on the circle. As the sound plays, the sweep second hand "sweeps" the face of the clock. Fifty sounds are in each window. Use the arrow keys to navigate between the two SOUND PICKER windows.
MOVIE PICKER:
A MOVIE PICKER icon has been added to the Palette. If your disk came with QuickTime¬ movies (this disc does!), then the MOVIE PICKER will play them just like the PICTURE PICKER displays pictures. If you click on the first frame of the PICKER window then the first movie in the MOVIE folder will be played. All of the QuickTime¬ controls will be displayed at the bottom of the movie so you can play it over and over.
No provision for copying movies has been provided at this time, but if you have ╥WILD MAGIC╙ or a similar utility then you can copy and paste QuickTime¬ movies directly into the scrapbook or other applications. Generally if you want to copy a movie, open the MOVIES folder from within the Finder and copy it directly.
System Requirements
The minimum memory requirement for World View is a HyperCard size of 2 MB. You can check the size of your HyperCard program with the "Get Info" command from the File menu of the finder. 24 bit image display requires a minimum of 3 MB, as each image takes nearly 1 MB.
Installing QuickTime¬
QuickTime¬ is required if you wish to use or view the money videos. It has been included on this disc for your convenience. If you don't have QuickTime¬ installed on your Macintosh, just drag the "Q" icon on the CD-ROM to your extension folder inside your system folder. Check the System 6 Init folder, if you are using System 6.
This stack was written with HyperCard 2.1 and requires this version or greater to run. If you don't have a recent version, one is available on this disc. Please note that Apple, HyperCard¿, and Macintosh¿ are all registered trade marks of Apple Computer, Inc. This stack was creatively written by Bill Dawson, who did a great job. Bill applied quite a bit of extra effort to the sound picker and it really looks great. Special thanks to Linda Neumann at Apple for all of her support.
There are 100 images and sounds and 25 movies on the disc. 8-bit images are available with both system and adaptive palettes for use as full screen backgrounds on the Mac II's (640 x 480) and the LC (512 x 384). Adaptive palettes provide truer color rendition, but may affect the representations of icons on the desktop.
Sounds were all composed by Joyce Imbesi, captured to DAT and converted to the Macintosh, then downsampled to 8-bit with SoundEdit. Joyce has also composed the music for Aris' Wild Places CD.
